When it comes to losing weight and getting healthy it seems like there is temptation EVERYWHERE! If it is not one thing then it is another. For example. Every time my parents go out of town they stop at this bakery I love. They make Italian desserts that melt in your melt and you crave even long after you have eaten one of their treats because one is never enough. So every time they go they get me my favorite dessert from there and I eat it. One, because it was very thoughtful for them to get it for me even though I didn't ask for it so don't want to be rude to wasteful and two, just the thought of it makes my mouth water and I think 'Well just one won't hurt". Then afterwards I feel guilty and shameful I didn't have the will power to resist. Also every time I tell myself 'That's it, you're going to eat only healthy foods' there seems to be some sort of special event like a birthday or some sort of celebration and once again will power is not my strong suit.
The thing is I've come to realize it is not the fault of my will power but my lack of discipline! I'm not at the mercy of my will power. Putting that piece of birthday cake into my mouth was a choice. A choice I made to ignore what I knew I should do and didn't.
So getting healthy and eating right is not about will power. It is about discipline and making better choices at every meal. Will I slip up again?....likely. The thing you have to remember about getting healthy is that you have to choose that it is the life style you want to have and remember why you chose this way of living. Is it so your jeans fit better? Is it so you're not winded when you walk up a flight of stairs? Is it so you don't stress about having a heart attack? Or is it simply because you want to love yourself again and be proud of the reflection in the mirror. So remember one bad meal isn't going to ruin your getting healthy life style. It is what you do after that slip up that matters.
Remember getting healthy is not about will power. It is a choice and it is about being disciplined enough to respect why you want to be healthy and choosing the better choices.
